Investigative Analyst (Digital Forensic Examiner)
Summary
This position is located in Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), Office of Investigations (OI), Forensic and Digital Sciences Laboratory (FDSL), Digital Forensics Support Group (DFS). The FDSL supports investigations through the processing of physical evidence using forensic techniques as well as provide support and advice concerning the searching and seizure of computers and computer related media and the forensic analysis of seized electronic evidence.
Responsibilities
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-14. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
– Provides support and assistance to special agents regarding digital and mobile investigations and shares expertise with co-workers in support of agency goals and objectives.
– Analyzes evidence provided by investigators stationed in multiple regions throughout the nation.
– Provides laboratory analysis of the contents of electronic storage devices seized during criminal or administrative investigations; and conducts research and development projects of national interest to resolve developing technical issues, which affect the seizure and examination of electronic storage devices.
– Can be called upon to testify as an expert witness in digital investigations related matters wherein the interrelationships of evidentiary issues are extremely difficult to articulate.
– Maintains liaison with forensic technicians, security officials, or engineers in other law enforcement agencies and information technology or telecommunications organizations in the private sector.
Travel Required
25% or less – One to five days per month.

Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
* Applying forensic procedures and techniques in order to analyze, research and/or evaluate information; AND
* Performing forensic analysis within the framework of an accredited forensic laboratory; AND
* Conducting forensic analysis/review of electronic evidence including: digital and electronic storage devices, forensic media, computers, mobile devices and other related electronic items and documenting conclusions from it; AND
* Developing, writing, and editing forensic reports and/or presentations.
For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
* Applying forensic procedures and techniques in order to analyze, research and/or evaluate information; AND
* Performing forensic analysis within the framework of an accredited forensic laboratory; AND
* Developing, writing, and editing forensic reports and/or presentations.
For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
* Applying forensic procedures and techniques in order to analyze, research and/or evaluate information; AND
* Developing, writing, and editing forensic reports and/or presentations.
OR
EDUCATION: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related.
OR
Combination of experience and education. This is creditable providing the combination consists of 100% of the requirement. Only graduate level education in excess of 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

– Top Secret – Background Investigation will be required.
