About the Position: You will serve as a Digital Forensic Examiner responsible for conducting and/or overseeing investigations of suspected felony violations against the laws of the United States and the Uniformed Code of Military Justice in which the U.S. Army is, or may be, a party of interest. Direct, manage, coordinate, oversee, and conduct felony criminal investigations focusing on digital forensics and computer crimes that transcend installation, state, or even international boundaries.
- Independently plan, develop, and conduct worldwide digital forensic criminal investigations, related national security threats, and other serious cybercrime affecting the Department of the Army and the nation’s critical infrastructure.
- Participate in search warrants often involving on-site acquisition of digital media including portable devices, workstations and servers.
- Identify investigative leads and determine the best methods to follow those leads in order to identify, arrest, and prosecute the responsible parties.
- Conduct research on technical investigative issues and computer crime related matters, and conduct tool testing and validation of forensic tools as needed.
- Conduct forensic acquisitions and perform analysis of digital data seized from mobile devices, computers, and/or digital storage media.
- Review and prepare clear, concise and detailed investigative and forensic reports.
- Provide investigative guidance on full range of activities involving digital evidence, as well as training on basic digital evidence recognition and seizure.
Conditions of Employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- Incumbent must submit a Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE-450, upon entering the position and annually.
- A pre-employment and annual physical examination is required

- Selected applicant must sign a mobility agreement prior to the effective date. By signing the mobility agreement, the individual understands they may be required to relocate (PCS) to another duty station at a later date.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state issued driver’s license.
- Must have successfully completed the CID Basic Special Agent Course, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), or other recognized equivalent prior to appointment or within the first year of employment.
- Obtain and/or maintain, the DoD Certified Digital Forensics Examiner and/or the FLETC Seized Computer Evidence Recovery Specialist (or successor certifications/equivalents as might be required under CID regulations) within 12 months of hire.

Specialized experience is defined aswork that involves the identification, preservation, examination, and analysis of digital evidence using a scientifically accepted or validated process, maintaining strict chain of custody of evidence, and preparing written reports and oral testimony for presentation in a court of law
at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service, GS-12.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: May manage, plan, and participate in Protective Service Missions, undercover functions such as surveillance and sting operations. Performance of these kinds of duties require: moderate, to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily. Incumbent must possess sufficiently good vision, with or without glasses, in each eye, in order that they may perform the duties satisfactorily. Near Vision, glasses permitted, must be acute for the reading of printed material the size of typewritten characters. The ability of incumbent to hear the conversational voice and whispered speech is required (any hearing impairment may be compensated by use of a hearing aid). Since the duties of the position are exacting and responsible, and involve activities under trying conditions, incumbent must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical condition, which would cause the applicant to be a hazard to himself or to others, will disqualify himself for appointment.
